Anderson Chau (“I,” “me,” “my”) is a licensed life and health insurance advisor in the Province of Ontario, regulated by the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA). This Privacy Policy explains how I collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal information in accordance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).

Information collected during a needs analysis: During a consultation, I may collect additional information necessary to assess your insurance needs and provide suitable recommendations, including health information, financial information, employment details, family and beneficiary information, and existing insurance coverage. This information is collected only with your knowledge and consent, and only to the extent necessary to provide you with appropriate insurance advice.
 

Information collected automatically: When you visit my website, certain technical information may be collected automatically, including your IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, and referring URL. This information is collected through cookies and similar technologies and is used solely for website analytics and to improve your experience.
 

3. How I Use Your Information

4. How I Share Your Information

I do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes. 

I may disclose your personal information only in the following limited circumstances:

Insurance carriers: When you choose to proceed with an insurance application, your personal information will be shared with the applicable insurance carrier (such as Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada) for the purpose of underwriting, issuing, and administering your policy. The carrier’s own privacy policy will govern their handling of your information.

Service providers: I may use trusted third-party service providers for website hosting, email delivery, scheduling, and other operational functions. These providers are given access only to the information necessary to perform their services and are contractually required to protect your information.

Legal requirements: I may disclose your personal information where required by law, regulation, court order, or regulatory authority, including in response to requests from FSRA or other regulatory bodies.

5. Commercial Electronic Messages (CASL)

I comply with Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) in all electronic communications. I will only send you commercial electronic messages (such as marketing emails, educational content, or promotional communications) if you have provided express consent or if implied consent exists under CASL.

Every commercial electronic message I send will identify me as the sender, include my contact information, and contain a functioning unsubscribe mechanism. If you withdraw your consent, I will stop sending you commercial electronic messages within 10 business days. Withdrawing consent does not affect communications that are transactional in nature, such as appointment confirmations, policy documents, or service-related correspondence.

6. Cookies and Website Analytics

My website uses cookies and similar technologies to collect anonymous usage data for the purpose of improving the website and understanding how visitors interact with it. I may also use tracking pixels (such as Meta Pixel) to measure the effectiveness of online advertising campaigns and to serve relevant advertisements to people who have visited my website.

You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect the functionality of certain features on my website. No personally identifiable information is stored in cookies.

I do not use advertising cookies to build profiles for the purpose of selling data to third parties.

For clients with active or recently lapsed policies, information may be retained for the duration required by applicable insurance legislation and regulatory guidelines. For prospective clients who do not proceed with a policy, contact information is retained only for as long as you remain subscribed to communications or as required for regulatory record-keeping purposes.

When your information is no longer needed, it will be securely destroyed or anonymized.

8. Data Security

I take reasonable measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These measures include the use of encrypted connections (SSL/TLS) on my website, secure storage of electronic files, and limited access to personal information on a need-to-know basis.

However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure. While I strive to protect your personal information, I cannot guarantee its absolute security.

9. Your Rights

Under PIPEDA, you have the following rights with respect to your personal information:

Access: You have the right to request access to the personal information I hold about you and to be informed of how it has been used and disclosed.

Correction: You have the right to request that inaccurate or incomplete personal information be corrected.

Deletion: You may request that your personal information be deleted, subject to any legal or regulatory retention requirements.

My services are directed at adults. I do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under the age of 18. If I become aware that I have inadvertently collected personal information from a minor, I will take steps to delete that information promptly.

I may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in my practices, applicable laws, or regulatory requirements.
